First, watch our quick video demo below to see how we made our Buffalo Check mini painted pots. Then read on for full step-by-step photo instructions.
The first thing you will do is prepare all your pots. Paint a red pot, a white pot and a green pot, both inside and out. Let dry completely.

How to Paint a Buffalo Check Pattern
Buffalo Check plaid is super trendy right now, both in clothing and home decor. We actually bought matching red Buffalo Check dresses for our family Christmas photos this year!
Once you have your pots painted with a base color, here’s how to paint a buffalo check pattern:
On a mixing tray or paper plate, blend together black paint and red paint until you have a 50-50 mix and a blackish-red color.
Use this blended color and the flat surface of your paintbrush to paint evenly spaced horizontal and vertical lines on the terra-cotta pot. Allow to dry.

Use black paint to fill in the squares where your lines overlap. Let your pots dry.

Repeat the above steps to make white and the green pots, using the white and green paint to mix with your black paint.
Once your painted plaid pots are completely dry, you can fill them with many type of goodies you like. We wrapped Christmas candies in clear cellophane bags and tied them up with red and green Christmas ribbon.

I love how they turned out!
